12 Uses for that Blank sketchbook in your stash

Choosing a sketchbook is a very personal experience. We all have preferred sizes and paper types, but sometimes we like to try something different, and it just doesn’t work out. The sketchbook pages are too big and overwhelming, or the pages are too small and feel cramped. Sometimes the page size is perfect, but the paper peels at the slightest touch of an eraser. Other times the pages are too flimsy or too thick for the techniques and mediums you prefer to use. Any combination of things can make using the sketchbook frustrating. So they sit collecting dust, and you feel guilty for not using them.

I’ve had a small pocket sized sketchbook sitting in my sketchbook basket for months. At first I was excited to use it, but once I started working in it, I disliked the experience. I’ve been experimenting with other ways to use it. So far I enjoy using the sketchbook for warmup paintings before I start working on a larger piece. I love to paint patterns, color palettes, paint swatches, and random shapes.
